On May 1, 2021, Minimum wage increased from $7.25/hr to $9.50/hr in Virginia; however, the increase does not stop there. The new minimum wage law proposes a gradual increase over the next 5 years, projecting $15.00/hr by January 1, 2026.

But why is there a gap in the yearly increases in 2024? The $13.50/hr and $15.00/hr increases in 2025 and 2026 are contingent upon the General Assembly’s decision to re-enact this increase, or confirm by legislation, in July 2024.
